In Autify, we have the ability to test whether your website is sending emails to users. You have a choice of using a permanent or random email address to use in a test. A random email address is different every time for each test execution. A permanent email address always uses the same email for each test execution.

When to use a random vs permanent email address:

Please use a random email address for tests where you need to use a different email address each time, such as user registration that involves email authentication.
Please use a permanent email address for testing a contact form where you need a fixed email.

How to create and run a test using a random email address

  1. Start recording your scenario.
  2. In the recording window, move to the page where you want to enter the email address.
  3. Click the [Email] button on the Autify Recorder.
  4. Click [Create Random Email Address].
  5. An email address has been created. Click the [Copy] button to copy the email address to the clipboard.
  6. Paste the email address on the page and perform the operation to send the email.
  7. After the email is sent, select the email address from the Autify Recorder.
  8. A list of received messages is displayed. Select the message you want to check.
  9. The content of the email is displayed in the recording window. You can create assertions for the email content and record operations such as clicking.
  10. You may interact with this page the same way you can interact with any other webpage.
  11. When you have finished recording the tests content, click the [Save] button. Now the Scenario using a random email address has been created! As a reminder, each time you run this test, a new random email address will show up.

How to create and run a test using a fixed email address

In order to create a permanent email address, you will need to navigate to the settings tab. To learn more about the settings page, click here!

  1. Access the wordspace setting page. First, click [Settings] on the sidebar.
  2. Select a wordspace from the menu.
  3. In the Email Address section, click [Create].
  4. Enter a name for you email address, the click [Create].

A permanent email address has been created. We recommend that you create an email address for different use cases and name it in a way that is easy to identify. There is no limit to the number of email addresses you can create. You can also use the same email address in multiple Scenarios.

Creating a Scenario with a permanent email address is very similar to using a random email address.

  1. Start recording your Scenario.
  2. In the recording window, navigate to the page where you want to enter the email address.
  3. Click the [Email] button on the Autify Recorder.
  4. A list of email address defined in the wordspace is displayed. Select the email address you want to use in the test.
  5. Click the [Copy] button to copy your email address to the clipboard.
  6. Paste the email address on the page and perform the operation to send the email.
  7. After the email is sent, click the [Refresh] button the Autify Recorder.
  8. Click the email to check.
  9. The content of the email is displayed in the recording window. You can create assertions for the email content and record operations such as clicking.
  10. When you have finished recording the test content, click the [Save] button.
