All about Execution Environments

By this point, you may be thinking, "What if I want to run my scenarios in Edge, or a myriad of other places?" This is where execution environments come into play. An execution environment is simply what browser/device and operating system you want to run your scenarios in. This how Autify does cross browser testing.

In your individual test plan, click the "Add" button above "Execution Environments".

Individual Test Plan

What execution environments that are available to you depends on your company's contract. For our purposes, we will have all of the execution environments available to us. Please refer to your contract to find out what environments are available to you.

Cloud Environments

At the very top, we have various environments that can be run in the cloud. These are Chrome/Linux, Edge/Windows Server, iPhone X/Mobile Emulator and Pixel 2/Mobile Emulator in both UTC or JST timezones based on whether JST environments have been enabled in your workspace.

To add these execution environments to your test plan, just select from one of the options and click "Add" at the bottom. You do not need to change anything in the dropdowns.

It should be noted that these are the recommended environments because they will run 3-10 times faster than any of the other environments as they are cloud based. That being said, we understand that you may need to test other browsers/devices.

Testing in Other Browsers/Operating Systems/Devices

For the times that you need to execute your scenario outside of the recommended cloud environments, you can make your selections in the dropdowns under the "Choose from all environments" section.

First, you will need to select an operating system. Currently, your options are Linux, Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, macOS Sonoma, iOS, and Android.

Once you have made a selection, you can choose your browser for Linux, Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, or macOS Sonoma. For iOS or Android, you can select what device you'd like to execute from but the browser will be Safari and Chrome respectively. If timezone settings are enabled in your workspace, you can select either the UTC or JST timezones for each browser.

Click the "Add" button again to add that execution environment.

Once you have added all of your desired execution environments, you should see them displayed in your test plan.
